What are these programs?

More than just alphabet soup, these stand for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counselling for the Elderly (TCE). These programs work hand in hand with the IRS, so you know that everything’s coming together in an official way that will give you all of the benefits of a formal assistance, and none of the red tape that is often associated with it.

VITA: This is a specialized tax service that offers help to people who make less than $55,000 per year, or for those with disabilities, Non-English speakers, and others.  Entirely run by volunteers, VITA offers free tax help so that everyone can formally and legally file their taxes by relying on IRS-certified volunteers.

TCE:Also run by IRS-certified volunteers, TCE is a unique program that offers free help for filers over the age of 60 and those who have specific questions about retirement and pensions in context to filing taxes.

These programs contain mostly retired people from non-profit organizations, and these programs are typically run by grants that are hosted by IRS.
