The NWS Wind Chill Temperature (WCT) index uses advances in science, technology, and computer modeling to provide an accurate, understandable, and useful formula for calculating the dangers from winter winds and freezing temperatures.

Dangerous Cold.

With today’s wind chill in the negatives; it means your exposure should be
limited to 30 minutes or you’ll risk frostbite.

Frostbite is when your cells in your body freeze. Your body-part, typically
ears, nose, fingers, and toes, are most susceptible. The tissue does not have
to be completely frozen for damage and blisters to form. The worst-case scenario is amputation.

If you think you’ve fallen victim to Frostbite, please seem medical
attention immediately. Symptoms include

  • Sensory: pins and needles, reduced sensation of touch, or stinging sensation
  • Also common: blistering, feeling cold, or waxy skin
  • Skin: blue skin from poor circulation, stinging, or redness
